McIlroy told the Golf Channel’s Todd Lewis that he never has been offered a contract from the Greg Norman-led breakaway golf league.
A report was published Monday in England’s City A.M. citing two sources saying that the Northern Irish superstar was offered a contract by the Saudi-funded league in the neighbourhood of $850 million and that the golfer had yet to turn it down.
“I honestly don’t know how these things get started. I’ve never been offered a number from LIV and I’ve never contemplated going to LIV,” McIlroy said.
Prior to last week’s Masters Tournament, the normally talkative McIlroy wrapped up his pre-tournament news conference in just nine minutes.

“I think I’ve made it clear over the past two years that I don’t think it’s something for me. It doesn’t mean that I judge people that have went and played over there.”
McIlory finished the interview with the most emphatic statement he has made on the topic and of his golfing future: “I will play the PGA Tour for the rest of my career.”
